Adjacent to the privately owned Burgh Island, Sedgewell Cove, often referred to as Bigbury-On-Sea, is separated from Bantham by the River Avon. During low tide, two expansive sandy beaches are revealed. At this time, it is possible to walk to Burgh Island and Bigbury-on-Sea North Beach, making it a popular destination for coastal walkers.

Sedgewell Cove, which has become increasingly popular over recent years, is also well known for both its swimming and surfing facilities.

The beach here benefits from a restaurant, three access points including a slipway and a large car park. Toilet facilities as well as a shop are also available.
