  • The lovely beach of An Trá Ban lies on the east coast of Great Blasket Island, looking back towards the Dingle Peninsula. Whilst it is the only beach on the island its remote nature means it never gets busy. You will often get a chance to enjoy the golden sand and views back to Dingle by yourself before heading off to explore the island.

An Trá Bán is located within a stone’s throw of the little harbour where the boats from the mainland land. The island is around 2 km from the Dingle coast and can be reached in 20 minutes by ferry from Dún Chaoin Pier.

Overlooking the beach at Trá Bán are the ruins of an old settlement. The island was inhabited until 1954 but life was hard and eventually the islanders threw in the towel. One of the houses has been renovated and turned into holiday accommodation quite recently.
