Taddiford Gap Beach - Hampshire

WWII coastal defences of SW Hampshire today - Taddiford Gap anti-tank cubes (1)

Due to coastal erosion the anti-tank cubes in place on the clifftop have long since tumbled from their original positions, and the very few that remain now lie on the beach. The purpose of these blocks was to impede access from the beach - to literally 'plug the gap' at Taddiford Gap (with apologies to fellow Geographer Jim Champion for that). Some of these blocks once had metal frames between them (anti-tank rails), they're no longer visible, although one can be seen in the foreground in Jim Champion's photo of 2009 between the two blocks: http://www.geograph.org.uk/photo/1430904 In 2009 there was safe access down to the beach from the clifftop which is no longer the case due to continuous coastal erosion. The nearest and safest place to access the beach at Taddiford Gap is from one of the Milford-on-Sea car parks, and involves a one mile walk over shingle. [[4878193]]
