St. Mawes Beach - Cornwall

Round the end of the quay at St Mawes

The Cornish gig is a 32 foot long, 6 oared vessel, which was originally used for carrying a harbour pilot out to an incoming vessel. They are raced competitively nowadays and here one is heading out of the harbour, toward the motorised ferry which conveys passengers across the Carrick Roads to Falmouth. It's to be assumed that the ferry captain would not need a pilot, even if the gig carried one!
