Felixstowe South Beach - Suffolk

Recharging the beach

An unusual term, perhaps, but this is called 'Beach recharge', according to an information board. Over recent years, much of the sand and shingle has disappeared from Felixstowe beach, rendering the foreshore liable to flooding in storms. Thousands of tonnes of sand and shingle are being replenished over a two-mile stretch of beach between Landguard Common and the War Memorial, and new rock groynes have been constructed.
