Portobello Beach (Brighton) - East Sussex

White Cliffs Cafe

There has been a cafe at this site since 1928 though the original one known as Smugglers Haunt was demolished in 1935 as part of the Undercliff Walk development. A new cafe was opened in 1937 and is still going strong today. Beneath the cafe is the subway linking the beach with Saltdean without having to negotiate the A259. This was opened in 1934.
