Porth Dinllaen Beach - Gwynedd

Ty Coch Inn, Porth Dinllaen

The Ty Coch Inn, which translates into English as 'Red House', has one of the most enviable locations of any pub in Britain right on the beach at Porth Dinllaen. Unless you are a resident in the village, the only access is either by walking at low tide from Morfa Nefyn or via the road across the golf course approaching, as here, past the back of the building. The inn was built in 1823 reputedly from red bricks brought here as ballast in a ship from Holland. Initially it served as the vicarage for Edern - some distance away - and became a public house in 1842 at a time when there was a shipbuilding trade here to supply the custom.
