Newbiggin - North Beach Photo
Heritage Centre, Newbiggin by the Sea
The Heritage Centre was developed using the old beach hut and café at the north end the promenade in Newbiggin Bay close to the car park. It has artifacts related to the maritime heritage, coal mining and local people and is open regularly during the summer months supported by a group of volunteers. Plans are well developed for a purpose designed Maritime Centre http://www.newbigginmaritimecentre.co.uk/ The spire above the building belongs to St Bartholomew's church [[1452032]]. The distinctive Northumberland flag flies on the left part of the Heritage Centre. It is based on a traditional design said to be the oldest in Britain http://www.crwflags.com/fotw/flags/gb-nthum.html
