East Pier Beach (Worthing) - West Sussex

Worthing Pier, West Sussex

Today it was cold, dull and typically still. This chilly anticyclonic weather had been going on for more than a week, so few visitors were about today. The pier was first opened in 1862, extended in 1888 and rebuilt after a destructive storm in March 1913. The final remnants of the 1888 pier were destroyed by fire in 1933. The pier was "sectioned" during World War II to prevent it being useful to invading Germans, then re-opened in 1946.
