Cayton Bay Photo

Cayton Bay - Yorkshire

Cayton Bay and beach

The photograph is taken from near to the bottom of a steep, metalled path ( http://www.geograph.org.uk/photo/1776491 ) from the cliff top and car park ( http://www.geograph.org.uk/photo/1776414 ) above. In the left foreground can be seen the boulder clay that the local cliff is made from and the cause of so much land slippage in recent years. For more, follow this link to the BBC news web site: http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/england/north_yorkshire/8550186.stm . The red bricked building (upper left) is the Yorkshire Water Cayton land drainage pumping station. For another photograph taken some 150metres nearer the pumping station, click here: http://www.geograph.org.uk/photo/1777802 . The bungalows on the cliff top in the distance are built on the site of the former NALGO holiday camp and have been the subject of press interest in recent years because of the previously mentioned land slippage. For more, follow this link to the BBC news web site: http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/uk/8578583.stm . At the end of the bay is Knipe Point ([[TA 06513 85470]]), which is sometimes referred to as Osgodby Nab. (The OS map erroneously refers to Osgodby Point) and, beyond that, in the distance can be seen the castle headland at Scarborough ([[TA 05051 89213]]).
