The Scottish seaside holiday

We found an empty bench on the prom for our picnic lunch and watched families enjoying a day on the beach. The much-heard sentiment "it's not cold once you're in" is traditionally said by fully clad parents watching from a safe distance as their offspring repeatedly dip one toe into the water before retreating again.
