Abercastle Beach - Pembrokeshire

Alfred Johnson landed here

The first person to make the single-handed Atlantic crossing in 1876, Alfred Johnson, a Danish-born fisherman from Gloucester Massachusetts, landed here after 66 days at sea in a dory named 'Centennial' in celebration of the first centennial of the United States. This plaque was unveiled by Alfred's grandson and there is also a book about the exploit, written by local author Rob Morris, see http://www.pembrokeshire-online.co.uk/abercastle/moreinfo.htm
