Newcastle Beach
This sand and pebble beach lies next to the small seaside resort town of Newcastle, where the beautiful Mourne Mountains sweep down to the sea. The beach is about a mile and a half long, and the scenic views of the nearby mountains make this a popular destination for walkers. Murlough Beach and Murlough National Nature Reserve can be reached by walking in a northerly direction along the dunes.
Newcastle beach is also popular for swimming, sunbathing and all kinds of other seaside recreation. The section of the beach next to the town is backed by a promenade, which has free Wi-Fi.
The beach can be accessed via stairs or a slipway. Along the promenade there are a number of shops, pubs and restaurants as well as amusement arcades. For those who don’t fancy swimming in the sea, Newcastle offers two outdoor swimming pools: Tropicana (with warm water and children’s slides) or Rock Pool; an original unheated 1930’s lido.
