  • Stretching for over a mile, the crescent of near-white sand that forms Mussetter is one of the finest beaches on Orkney. The beach is found on the little island of Eday which lies at the heart of the Orkneys.

The Sands of Mussetter look out over the calm clear waters of Fersness Bay with views to Westray. Sunsets here can be quite stunning here during the summer months.

Being located just a stones throw from the island’s airport means there is a small chance you may have to share the beach with another person or two. For almost guaranteed solitude keep heading west along the beach and then over the low clay cliffs to the Bay of Doomy and its little sandy cove.
