Thorney Bay beach is a small, sheltered sandy beach on Canvey Island. To the rear of the beach is a large flat grassy area with a play park, ideal when the kids have had enough of making sand castles (for which the sand here is particularly good!)

The beach faces into the River Thames estuary a few miles upstream from the sea. There are great views across to the Kent coast across the river and it is an ideal spot for watching the ships come and go up the Thames.

Nice space and peaceful, but dogs are no longer allowed to free roam on this beach.

Really liked it, clean and a Sun Trap sheltered by any Wind.

Also Coastal path away to other places to explore, Path is on the beach side of the sea wall. So watch high tides.

such a dangerous beach with no warning signs. tide was out so tried to walk to the sea. stuck in knee high mud with oil and sharp rocks underneath. cuts all over our feet. later we managed to get in the water and were cut to pieces by underwater rocks. i cannot move my hand which was cut by rocks. awful experience.

Toilets

No toilets available on our visit, which is not good when you have young children. Where are they to go?

Canvey on "Sea"

Called Canvey on sea when it is clearly not it is still on the Thames Estuary! Either the person who named it don’t know their geography or it’s a ploy to trap tourists. The water must be filthy down river from a sewage and an oil plant! no thanks!

Wouldn’t recommend
