The large sandy beach of Fanore straddles the Caher River as it empties into the Atlantic Ocean. As such the beach is exposed to much of the Atlantic swell making it a popular spot with surfers.
During the summer months the beach is patrolled by the lifeguard service making it a great place to learn to surf or enjoy the waves.

Fanore beach is backed by an extensive sand dune system which is protected by the European Habitats Directive. Formed over the duration 5,000 years these dunes are home to some unique flora and fauna. There is also evidence of ancient human habitation of the dunes dating back to the early Stone Age.

It’s a photographer’s dream. Lots and lots of seaweed and rocks, and the smell of the sea. Fanore is a magic beach. Highly recommended. Bring it on.
