Le Braye (St Ouens Bay)

St Ouens Bay is the longest beach on Jersey, spanning almost all of the western coast of the island. The vast expanse of clean, golden sand stretches for at least three miles along the coast. 

The beach faces west and is quite exposed to sea breezes as well as a powerful Atlantic swell. It is therefore not surprising that this part of the coast is very popular with surfers and kiteboarders. Surfers have been enjoying the waves here for over 80 years. 

Swimmers need to be cautious here as there are strong currents. Those entering the water should not swim beyond the flagged zones and should restrict themselves to areas patrolled by the lifeguards.

From St Ouens Bay there are views over Corbiere lighthouse and La Rocco Tower. Corbiere lighthouse lies on the extreme south-western tip of the island.  At low tide a causeway leads over the rocks to the lighthouse.  A siren at la Corbiere warns visitors of the incoming tides.

The busiest part of the beach is at Le Braye.  This is the most sheltered part of the bay and is popular with sunbathers.  The sandy seabed, and good facilities make this part of the beach a popular destination for families. It is also a great place to come at any time of the year for bracing coastal walks. Linger until dusk, with a beach barbeque and you might be rewarded with a spectacular sunset.  Le Braye has a wide range of facilities, including showers.

Watersplash is a popular venue along St Ouens Bay.  It has a beach bar and restaurant and a nightclub.  It is also home to the Jersey Surfboard Club.
